Problems in Combinatorics and Posets session
Jagiellonian University, Kraków, September 12-15, 2012

The Problem session is an offshoot of a very successful course Partially ordered sets: problems and methods given by Tom Trotter in May-June 2011 at Jagiellonian University. The video records of 15 exhaustive lectures and exercise sessions with hundreds of tasks can be found here.

The workshop aims to gather people working in combinatorics with a special emphasis on those interested in posets. The full scope of considered problems should include graph theory, probabilistic combinatorics, extremal combinatorics and algorithmic problems in theoretical computer science.

It is also envisioned as a problems oriented workshop where speakers will brag more about what they can’t do than what they can. The idea is to gather interesting problems and set directions. So tell why the problem is interesting. Explain the background and why its resolution will have meaning. The collection of all open problems raised at the meeting will be available on-line.

related events

The workshop is scheduled just before the Polish Combinatorial Conference, September 17-21, 2012. There will be a bus available for all participants going from Kraków to Będlewo (probably leaving on September 16; distance: 425 km).

There is one more posets-dedicated event this year. The biennial SIAM Conference on Discrete Mathematics, June 18-21, 2012 will contain a minisymposium on posets led by Tom Trotter.
